Intercultural Fest This Week

We are doing a couple of things for Intercultural Fest...

-Instead of our usual Thursday meeting we are presenting Slumdog Millionaire this Thursday in the Kirkhoff theater at 8:00pm. We will be having a discussion after the movie. There will be plenty of free food/snacks!!!! Feel free to bring your friends :)

-Friday is Global Gala! This is a showcase of all the cultural organizations. We are doing a dance for this event. This event starts at 6:30pm in Grand River Room/Pere Marquette (Kirkhoff)

Candlelight Vigil

In late November, 2008, the world witnessed yet another senseless act of terrorism, this time in Mumbai, India. The terrorists' prime targets were citizens of India, United States, United Kingdom, and Israel. Around 180 innocent lives were lost and more than 300 people were injured in this heinous act against peaceful civilians. These coordinated terrorist attacks have been strongly condemned across the world.

As a symbol of solidarity and to pay homage to the victims of the Mumbai attacks, India Link has organized a Candlelight Vigil. The vigil will be held at the downtown GVSU Campus in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Sunday, January 18^th from 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm. This event will be held in coordination with the commemoration of the birthday of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

The address is 401 W. Fulton Street, Grand Rapids, MI 49504.

We will assemble by the flags on GVSU's campus on Fulton Street before the railroad tracks.

Participants are requested to wear white, as a symbol of peace.

Dear DSU Doers,

Please note the timings and date for all the meetings DSU going to have this semester. We regret that this semester we are not able to have separate general meeting. We decided to have only one great event on this semester. We will send you the details soon. Please try to participate in the event and enjoy the Dance, DJ and Dinner with DSU.

Dear DSU members,
We are please to announce our new Vice
president Mr. Jasjeet Singh. We give him a warm welcome to DSU. Mr
Vice President has set very high goals for DSU. In order to work on
this Mr. Jasjeet Singh has decided to lead biggest event of DSU for
this semester named 'Desi Night'. He has promised DSU for more fun and
masti (enjoyment and entertainment) as a part of cutural education
goal of our organization. Moreover, he has also created a new
position for Naughty stuff in our organization. He is very happy to
announce Harshitha thota as a new officer of Naughty stuff.

We expect a great participation of yours in the upcoming event Desi
night nearly on March 21st or 28th. More details will be given in the
next general meeting. The exact location and timings for this meeting
will be sent to you soon. General meeting will be at pew campus on
upcoming Friday.

We meet every Monday at kirkhof at 7:00 pm. Though it is a board
meeting, everybody is heartily invited. Please come and participate in
every meeting on Monday, give us some suggestions, and feel like
helping yourself.

Details for next board Meeting on Monday is following. As soon as we
get perment room location of monday meeting, we will inform you. The

DESI FOOD AND DANCES

We are holding events on the week of GVSU Intercultural Festival

The events will take place on Wednesday, November 14, 2007.

Free Desi Food - Kirkhoff Lobby 3:00 - 4:00 pm

Desi Student Union will also be serving delicious Indian food in the Lobby in Kirkhof center from 3:00-4:00. Sample some classic Indian delicacies before the dance.

I Wanna Dance Like a Desi - Kirkhof Center, Grand River Room 5:00 - 6:00pm

Join instructors Gujarati Dandiya and Punjabi Bhangra in an interactive dance experience which will not only be educational but also enjoyable. Members of Desi Student Union will be performing and teaching the dances. Come out and support Desi Student Union at our first event!

Review on DSU activities

Hi!

Here, we are happy to give you the review of DSU activities till now.

Our last general meeting was held on Friday 12^th 2007 at 5:00 pm. We are happy to announce that the DSU is accepted by STUEY and we are now official. If you have not completed the online registration at STUEY, please do so. It is a proof of membership and it helps the organization when it comes to securing funding for our events. Please follow the link. http://gvsu.edu/studentlife/stuey/ . If you have any difficulty in registration, please let us know, we will be happy to assist you.

We are proud to announce that even thought the DSU has been established recently, we are going to take a part in the Intercultural Festival. The Intercultural Festival is on November 14. The DSU is going to be a part of two events of the Intercultural Festival i.e. The Food Festival and The Dance event on the same day. In the next general meeting, elaborated details about the events will be given.

We need volunteers for both the events. The food festival has timings from 12 to 4 pm. For your convenience we have spilt the timings. You can assign for 12-1, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4. And the Dance event is from 6 to 11. So please let us know for which timings you can cover up.

Along with the Dance event, the DSU is also planning to put 'Mahendi' event. The DSU needs volunteer for the Mahendi event too.

The DSU regrets that until now in all general meetings, there were no fun or recreation section. But in the next meeting, there is going to be a surprised package of fun for every member.

The timings and place (It may be a surprise!) will be posted on our website and it will also be emailed to you.

The DSU appreciates your participation till far and we are very happy to invite you for the next general meeting.
